BeyzaCases Zero Series Leather Sleeves for iPhone 4 & iPad 2 Review
/
Our good friends over at BeyzaCases not only sponsored a giveaway, but they also sent out their latest and greatest leather sleeves for the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Theses sleeves are a part of the new Zero Series of leather sleeves made for the iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPod Touch 4G, MacBook Air 11", Galaxy Tab and the Zoom. What sets the Zero Series sleeves apart from the rest is that they are the world's thinnest leather sleeves available. That's a big statement to make certainly. Well, that's what I'm hear to find out. BeyzaCases' leather sleeves aren't anything new to me. I've had the opportunity to review the SlimLine leather sleeve for the iPhone 4, as well as the Retro Slim leather sleeve for the iPad. It's no surprise that BeyzaCases loves making slim leather sleeves for all sorts of gadgets. The latest Zero Series line of leather sleeves takes one step further in the slim department for sure. Catch the full review right after the jump!
In typical BeyzaCases fashion, the Zero Series leather sleeve for the iPhone 4 comes boxed in a very nice and presentable packaging safe and secure inside a pouch with a coupon code and nice congratulations for your purchase. So far things are looking fantastic. If black and red stitching isn't your thing, you can choose from 5 difference leather colors in the Zero Series line of sleeves. Although I personally think the classic black look with the red stitching is the traditional sporty look that I really love. The Zero Series leather sleeve for the iPad 2 on the other hand, won't come inside a protective pouch but does come packaged inside a similar presentable box.
As you can see, these sleeves are absolutely stunning in every way. The leather feels like a high quality leather backed up by a good leather smell. Quality leather is important when you spend €24.95 (about $35) for the iPhone 4 sleeve and €54.95 (about $78) for the iPad 2 version. BeyzaCases delivers when it comes to quality leather. The Zero Series leather sleeves have a more condensed pebble leather texture than the regular slim leather sleeves BeyzaCases makes. That might have to do with the different type of thickness of the leather that is used to create these extraordinary slim sleeves.
Calling these leather sleeves slim is an understatement. They are ultra-thin. I've haven't seen any leather sleeves as thin as the Zero Series leather sleeves. Yes there are other leather sleeves such as the UltraSlim that are also very slim, but aren't as thin as the Zero Series. I think that if you're looking for a slim leather sleeve, the Zero Series sleeves should be on your target. The stitching compliments the sleeves and adds nice definition and interest. Both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4 Zero Series sleeves are perfectly cut to match every single curve of each device. They are both extremely tight and form-fitting exactly as they should be. So form-fitting that you can clearly see how well each sleeve carefully hugs and conforms to the design of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4.
The tight fit creates a secure hold of the device that will not allow it to simply slide out by itself even while there is an opened opening. I can shake both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4 upside-down without either of them budging out. This is exactly what you want to look for in such sleeves.
The inner lining is made from a soft microfiber material that allows the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to slide in with very little effort. The Zero Series sleeve for the iPhone 4 does incorporate a bottom dock connector cutout while the Zero Series sleeve for the iPad 2 does not. I really did wish the iPad 2 sleeve would have the same bottom cutout as the iPhone 4 sleeve which helps a lot in pushing out the device from the bottom and of course the ability to sync and charge while still inside the sleeve. So in that regard, I would have to say that the Zero Series sleeve for the iPhone 4 does have a bigger advantage over the iPad 2 sleeve. I haven't had any issues hearing an incoming call even though the cutout is centered around the dock connector only. I like that I was able to have access to my silent side switch while my iPhone 4 was inside the sleeve.
You will find it harder to get your iPad 2 out of the Zero Series leather sleeve due to the fact that there is not way of pushing the iPad 2 out from the bottom. Instead you will need to grasp the front of the iPad 2 while trying to find your gripping on the very tight-fitting sleeve in order to slide your iPad 2 out from within the sleeve. There is a cutout on the top side of the iPad 2 sleeve where you can grab a hold of your iPad 2, but sadly that isn't enough to easily get your iPad 2 out. I really hope BeyzaCases creates a dock connector cutouts on the bottom or at least add a little grip tab on the bottom like Sena did with their UltraSlim sleeve.
Another downside to the Zero Series iPad 2 leather sleeve is the so obvious round magnet that easily shows thru the thin leather. It's right there, in front of your. It was the first thing I noticed when I first looked at the iPad 2 sleeve. I thought it was a cleaver idea of BeyzaCases to add a magnet in order to take full advantage of the iPad 2's magnetic on/off function. It's the first time I've ever seen a sleeve that takes advantage of the iPad 2's magnetic function. As expected, it works very well. Inserting the iPad 2 into the sleeve will automatically trigger the sleep function on the iPad 2 and the same goes when your take it out. The bad side is the obtrusive look of the round magnet showing thru the leather. It's right on the front of the sleeve and I think that takes away so much from the overall good looks of the Zero Series iPad 2 sleeve. If BeyzaCases can't conceal the magnet better, I don't think it should even be included. It's not all that necessary on a sleeve.
That's not all though. I was really turned down when I discovered the shiny, silver BeyzaCases logo on the back of both the Zero Series leather sleeves. I just doesn't look good and it's pretty obtrusive. The embossed logo on the front should have been enough. At least this one should have been embossed as well. The ugly text and silver color takes away from the what could have been, a clean and sleek back. It's too bad that little things like this have such a big impact on the overall look of what I consider to be a fantastic looking leather sleeves for the iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
In summary, the Zero Series leather sleeves for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4 look and feel like an elegant bunch. For someone who wants a good quality leather sleeve that is extremely ultra-thin and form-fitting for their iPhone 4 or iPad 2, will find the Zero Series line of leather sleeves to be a great choice all things considered. You may already know that these ultra-thin and slim sleeves aren't very suitable for those who tend to drop their gadgets as these will only offer you with the utmost minimal protection. BeyzaCases' Zero Series leather sleeves aren't perfect, and while the iPad 2 sleeve needs more to improve on, I think the iPhone 4 sleeve would be a solid choice.
Update: I should note that if your iPad 2 or iPhone 4 is skinned with a protective skin such as a GelaSkins or a Wrapsol, it will not fit inside the Zero Series sleeves because of how tight-fitting the fit is.
