Apple's New Mac Accessories Include Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad 2, Magic Mouse 2
Apple has quietly released new and improved accessories for Macs today alongside updated 4K 21.5-inch and 5K 27-inch iMacs including a Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad 2, and Magic Mouse 2. Apple's new Mac peripherals have all been redesigned with Bluetooth 4.0 including built-in, long-lasting rechargeable batteries that can be fully recharged in two hours using a Lightning connector cable – thankfully included with all three new peripherals.
Apple's long-awaited, newly designed Magic Keyboard (included with all iMacs) has an improved wedge-shaped aluminum build that's even more solid than before thanks to the new low-profile scissor-style keys which are 33% more stable than before and require a shorter key travel for a more comfortable and precise typing experience. It's worth noting that these are the same keys Apple used for its 12-inch Retina MacBook, so they're also larger than the keys of the older model. Alas, the biggest letdown is that the new Magic Keyboard lacks backlit keys and is even more expensive than ever at $99
The new Magic Trackpad 2 on the other hand, which is also considerably more expensive than its predecessor at $129 - can be justified as it features a quieter click-anywhere design using Apple's Force Touch technology as well as having a 29% larger edge-to-edge glass touch surface. It also shares the same design language as the Magic Keyboard with a wedge-shaped aluminum construction.
The new $79 Magic Mouse 2 (included with all iMacs) hasn't been changed physically, but it also features a built-in rechargeable battery said to feel more solid and lighter than before. Underneath, the Magic Mouse 2 features redesigned feet that have less friction for a smoother glide. And that's pretty much it.
